It won’t be long now until the leaves start to turn and drift from the trees down onto your roof before washing into your gutters and (hopefully) down and away from your home. Before the leaves, and worse, dead branches, start to drop from the trees in alarming numbers, make sure your roof and gutters are ready for the busy season.
Inspect and Clean Gutters
Go along and check every section of your gutter for loose screws or leaks. While going around and checking be sure to remove any large debris that could get stuck in the downspout. It’s better to pull out any large sticks than to flush them once you get to cleaning. After you’ve inspected your gutter and cleared any problematic debris, grab your garden hose and flush the system of dirt. If your gutters are in need of a coat of paint, now would be a good time.
For the most part, you don’t really need to climb up onto your roof and closely inspect every inch. Just checking it out while you’re up on a ladder cleaning out your gutters should suffice. If you’re worried there’s a problem with your roof call in a professional to climb up and take a closer look. They’ll know exactly what to look for and have the proper safety protocols for any type of roof.
Make Repairs or Replacements
Late summer and early fall are great times to have any repairs or replacements done to your roof. If you’re installing new gutters, a skylight, or a new shingle roof you’ll want to get them up before the leaves start to litter your lawn and your roof.
