Which U.S. State You Should Call Home

Everyone dreams about getting away from the stress of daily life and going somewhere wonderful, but what if you could actually do it? Leave your job and house behind to live somewhere new? Taking factors like cost or proximity to family members out of consideration opens up a new realm of possibilities. As long as we’re daydreaming, where would you go after retirement or for a long vacation? Here are our suggestions based on your preferred climate, leisure activities, and lifestyle!

If You Like Fun in the Sun…

California is your best bet! This state is one of the most popular dream home locations, but many are put off by the higher cost of living. Taking that out of the equation, though, we can see why the Golden State is in such high demand (for celebrities and us normal folks alike!). With a warm but low-humidity climate and miles upon miles of beautiful coastline, California is the state for outdoor activities, from hiking to surfing and pretty much everything in between (unless you’re a snowboarder…).

If You’re an All-Around Outdoorsperson…

You should consider spending some time in Maine! Back on the good old East Coast, this state has the full gambit of seasons and is beautiful in each one. Rocky, picturesque shorelines bordered by mossy woods and hiking trails are at your fingertips, including four national parks for all levels of hikers. And bonus: you can eat all the seafood you like.

If You Love History…

You might just belong in New York! That’s probably not the headline you’d expect this state to be under, but New York is actually listed as the U.S. state with the most historical sites of all at 270. New York City alone is listed as having 114, the most of any U.S. city. Beyond historical value, the Empire State also houses the American side of Niagara Falls and beautiful upstate forested lakes. You can visit beaches, historical landmarks, and the Greatest City in the World in just the southernmost tip of the state.

If You Want It All…

Welcome to the gorgeous state of Colorado! You’ll never be short on wide open spaces in this diverse landscape. Pop into Denver for a bit of city activity or explore Colorado’s arid deserts, winding river canyons, and snow-capped Rocky Mountains. This state is one of the most picturesque and aims to please with plenty of different places to explore, not the least of which are its four national parks. Skiing and snowboarding will be your sports of choice, and once you’ve gone rafting through the canyons, you may never want to leave the Centennial State again!
