How to Clean Your James Hardie Siding

How to clean James Hardie siding

Your siding will likely need to be cleaned once or twice per year, depending on your region and weather. Cleaning is a simple process that only requires a garden hose and a few clean rags. Start by rinsing your siding thoroughly with the hose, then use your rags to gently clean your siding. Always go with the grain of the material and work small areas at a time. Start at the top of your siding and work your way down in order to prevent dirty water from dripping onto areas you have already cleaned.

If your siding is comprised of fiber cement, you’ll want to use a low-pressure water spray and a nonmetal, soft bristled brush to clean it thoroughly. Never use acid or a pressure washer to clean fiber cement siding as this can lead to serious damage and could void your manufacturer’s warranty.

To clean James Hardie Color Plus products, use a garden hose and soft rags. If you have stubborn dirt or staining that is not easily removed, you can use a soft bristled brush and some liquid detergent to help remove them. Again, always start at the top so you don’t have to re-clean any areas.
